Website maintenance details for all of our plans

Website software update frequency

WordPress Plugins

  • WordPress and the plugins we use release security updates (0.0x updates) on nearly a daily basis. These updates will be automatically applied to your copy of WordPress because, in our experience, they do not “break” the website.
  • All larger updates (0.x and greater) are applied manually, generally within 2 to 4 weeks of the release. They are done manually because they generally add or change functionality, which can cause conflicts with plugins and must be tested after being installed. We generally wait for a couple of weeks to make sure the update is stable.

Server Updates

  • All server software is reviewed quarterly and updated as needed. This includes the OS, database, web server, etc.

Hosting Infrastructure

KnownHost

We have been hosting websites since 2010 and have tried many different providers. After all of this experience we have moved all of our hosting to KnownHost’s cloud-based virtual private servers. We have done this for a few reasons:

  • They are “right sized” in that they are large enough to have all of the latest and best technology needed to be a top-tier hosting company.
  • However, they are small enough to care about customer service.
  • A proven 99.99% uptime record.
  • The fastest response to issues and finding fixes we have seen in the industry.

Open-Source Monitoring

We use a customized, open-source-based monitoring system to manage all of our hosting clients’ copies of WordPress. It manages backups to AWS, alerts us of any updates that are needed, and any downtime.

Server Security

Some of our server security includes: ConfigServer Security & Firewall, ClamavNet anti-virus/trojan/malware Software, and continual updates to server software.

Support

Pilot team availability

Our official support hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central. However, unofficially we monitor our emails and calls very frequently outside of our official hours.

Requesting support

You will be given a ticket-submission form and a phone number to contact during official support hours, and we will provide you with a web form and phone number you can contact during unsupported hours.

Response Time

Server problems always become our highest priority when they occur. We work continuously to solve the problem until it is solved. We also continually communicate with you on the status of the issue and our efforts.

Technical Support and Services

Your website is not built or designed to be, “set it and forget it”. Websites are intended to change and grow with your business or organization. Small-and-medium-sized organizations don’t usually have specialists to make the changes needed or to fix problems that crop up. That’s where our management team comes in. We can tackle any project, but common requests include:
